ALCO provides you with low cost high quality grain covers which are quick to deploy and quick to ship. We offer flat or the more common conical grain pile covers in any size you require. Available in several different materials that can be made of a one piece construction for smaller grain piles or provided in sections for larger piles. Available in both stocked and custom sizes.
Grain stockpiles and grain bunkers are becoming very common in agriculture as a less expensive alternative to silos. You can now store wheat, barley, corn, soybeans, rice, nuts, cottonseed and other various commodities on a large scale at a fraction of the cost.
Unlike long term structures like silos which are costly to erect and move, temporary grain covers are quick to deploy and are a fraction of the cost.
There are several materials we use for grain covers depending on your stockpile material, desired longevity and conditions. Each cover is produced with high quality 1.5″ welds that are tested before shipping to ensure performance. Grain covers can also feature grommets on the perimeters along with four rows of stitching for extra strength. It is specifically engineered to provide high strength and durability in a lightweight material.
Different installers have different methods for installing the grain bunker covers. One common method is to put the cover in the middle on top of the pile and then to roll it down the sides of the pile on opposite sides. You would then grab the cover and pull it to unfold onto the stock pile. You can specify to ALCO how you would like us to make and fold the cover so that when it arrives you can install it per your desired method. The covers can arrive folded or on rolls for quick deployment.
Stored crops must be shielded from the sun, moisture, wind, birds, rodents and insects. These covers help achieve that goal and with one of the strongest materials on the market. The market can be erratic and keeping your costs down is what these storage covers can help you achieve.
Some of the factors that we consider when selecting the cover material are: chemical compatibility, UV stability, puncture strength, durability and installation method. Another consideration is the length of time the cover is needed. For temporarily needs we will recommend a thin film material such as 6 mil thickness. For long term cover needs we might recommend a 15 or 23 mil thickness.
We offer a wide range of materials which are suitable for both short term and long term applications including polyethylene, polypropylene and PVC. Each of these materials offer unique characteristics in terms of weight, tear strength and UV resistance.
The covers are supplied in panels and can be installed by the customer in the field. The covers can be sewn, taped or even welded together by the user.
There are several methods to anchor your cover. For smaller stockpiles you can use heavy objects around the bottom perimeter to hold down the cover. For larger stockpiles it is common to use sandbags in a grid formation to hold the cover in place. ALCO can supply the sandbags for your project if needed.
Yes. If there is damage to your stockpile cover, then it can be repaired in the field using field patch tape. You can purchase the tape from ALCO and get your cover back in working order quickly.
